How the Weight Loss Industry is Harmful for You and Your Pocket
Millions of people around the world have problems controlling their weight. Many of them are desperate to find an effortless, safe weight loss solution. They are prepared to try anything at any cost as long as it promises to burn off their fat while they sleep, regardless of what they eat. Little wonder then that thousands of new weight-loss products are released onto the market every year.
As most people know, there is always a supply of new wonder products that make outrageous claims of vast weight loss in very little time with little or no effort required. However, none of these products have ever been able to fulfil their promise and rather than offering safe weight loss techniques, some have proved to be downright dangerous. So why do they continue to release the latest, greatest products which in reality are no better than the ones they released last year?
Well, the weight loss industry earns around 30 billion dollars (currently about 18 billion British pounds) every year. It does this by releasing miracle cures that promise to cure all our weight loss problems and then getting doctors, sports stars and so called celebrities to tell us how effective and safe they are. In reality, the fact is that they are as useless as the last products, which just means that people are given false hope after false hope.
Now if the weight loss industry was more open and honest about what really works, then people would probably stop searching for that miracle cure and start looking for healthy weight loss techniques that actually do work. There is a problem with this of course, if this was to happen, the industry would lose billions in revenue and many would go out of business.
So there you have it, the cold hard truth is that it's all about business. It’s not about your health, it’s not about whether you lose weight and keep it off, or whether you're happy with the product in the end, it’s just about business and making money. The weight loss companies simply tell the public what they want to hear and make a fortune out of it.
Recent research by the American Food and Drug Administration showed that 95% of people who had lost weight, gained it back between six months and three years later. They also declared that not one single weight loss company in the entire industry can show a record of long term success. It is really unbelievable that any industry could get away with such a poor track record. If we bought cars or houses that fell to bits within three years of purchase, I’m sure we would all complain, yet with weight loss products we continue to accept their failures.
There are, sadly, only a few weight loss companies whose methods are based on healthy weight loss techniques that have been proven to work, such as a balanced diet and exercise. Unfortunately they are outnumbered hundreds of thousands of times by companies who continue to offer the latest quick fix, fads and gimmicks that continue to emerge.
